Endoscopic spine surgery reached a new milestone as Dr. Daniel E. Choi, MD, FAAOS, performed the first Barricaid® Annular Closure Device implantation using an endoscopic approach at Gramercy Surgery Center in New York.
Using Amplify Surgical’s dualPortal® system, Dr. Choi maintained full visualization during the discectomy and seamlessly delivered the Barricaid implant. He called the technique “the next advancement in patient care,” noting it adds no complexity to the procedure.
According to Jacob Einhorn, CTO of Intrinsic Therapeutics, “No changes to instruments or steps were needed,” demonstrating Barricaid’s compatibility with endoscopic techniques.
This milestone highlights how endoscopic spine surgery can integrate advanced implants to help reduce reherniation and reoperation risk—offering improved outcomes for patients and surgeons alike.
