Dr. Antigone Argyriou Advocates for Physicians in Her Speech at the 2023 AAPMR Conference

 Dr. Antigone Argyriou speech at the 2023 AAPMR ConferenceIn November, Dr. Antigone Argyriou represented Spine Medicine & Surgery of Long Island at the 2023 Conference of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R). From November 16-19th, this annual assembly brought physiatrists together for a diverse range of professional development. 

As the pain management specialist at Spine Medicine & Surgery of Long Island, Dr. Argyriou attended both to learn and inform. She participated in an ultrasound course as well as shared a speech entitled, “Advocacy 101: Getting Involved at the Local, State, and National Levels of PM&R Physicians.” pain treatment

Dr. Argyriou, along with Spine Medicine & Surgery of Long Island’s Dr. Courtney Toombs and the practice’s founding spine surgeon, Dr. Daniel Choi, go above and beyond with their patient-first approach, advocating for policies that help improve access and quality of patient care. The AAPM&R conference speech underscored this type of advocacy, one that helps protect patients and the medical profession.

About Dr. Antigone Argyriou

Dr. Antigone Argyriou is double board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, and pain medicine. She offers a variety of non-surgical acute and chronic pain treatments, including epidural steroid injections and radiofrequency ablations. She takes a multimodal approach to tackle the multiple aspects of pain that cause dysfunction, whether non-surgical back pain treatment or conservative solutions for neck or facial pain.

A few years ago, the AAPM&R selected Dr. Argyriou to participate and complete the two-year immersive Future Leaders Program. As part of the 2019-2021 class, she received physiatry-focused leadership training, which has enhanced her patient care and advocacy work.

Dr. Argyriou attended medical school at Saba University and completed her internship in Internal Medicine at Nassau University Medical Center. She completed her Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at Montefiore Medical Center for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. In her final year, she served as chief resident, then stayed at Montefiore Medical Center to complete her Pain Medicine fellowship.
