Dr. Art Kaplan, a renowned bioethicist and the Head of Medical Ethics at NYU School of Medicine, invited Dr. Daniel Choi to appear as a guest on his series, Both Sides Now. Dr. Kaplan, Dr. Choi and Dr. Mark Katlic weighed in on the controversial topic of whether older physicians should be tested to determine if they’re still competent.

The American Medical Association has taken positions on this topic because it affects public health and it affects the safety of our patients, but, at the same time, we also want to respect the rights of practicing physicians as they age. To balance both, what’s the best way forward?
